Pagefile.sys Help

Hi,

I recently have been a problem with my cpu rebooting
itself. The error I get is Windows\Minidump\Mini100104-
01.dmp So, I went into to change the Page File as
suggested before. I did the following.

1. Set Page File to 0, ok your way out and reboot. Then
follow the same procedure and reset the Page File to
System Managed File.

The next day it happened again.

So then I decided to set to No Page File. When I rebooted
my cpu and set it to System Manage. I received a prompt
asking me if I wanted to overwrite the C:\Pagefile.sys I
said yes. I assuming I am suppose to delete this file but
when and how would I do this before I set my Page File to
System Managed?

When I hit system managed it gives me a minimum of 2MB
and Currently Allocated to 335.

I even went to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;EN-US;q317277 and downloaded the patch to no
avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The pagefile.sys needs a minimum of 2MB so setting it to 0 will force windows to reset it because it can't opperate with a 0MB setting. In general pagefile.sys should be set to 1½ times your physical RAM as the minimum and 2 times that as the maximum. For example my system has 512MB RAM so, the pagefile.sys settings are 768MB (minimum) 1536MB (maximum) less my shared memory and the actual settings are 766MB and 1532MB. What does your Mini100104- 01.dmp actually say as the error?

That is not good advice on the size of page file. See my page
www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm

The C: partition should have a minimal file present on it - say min 2
max 50 or 100 if you put the main file elsewhere. That then allows it
to be used for mini-dumps, and it will otherwise probably not come into
existence. Without such a minimal setting the system is inclined to
sulk, and either turn off VM altogether or to put an enormous file on C:
