My OS:winxp home. Recently I have installed more memory.
My actual total phisical memory RAM, is 640MB.
My pagefile is now set at :min=960MB, max:1920MB.
Is this OK? or should I changed?
Thanks.
Nothing detrimental except that you are probably wasting a fair bit of
disk space.
My suggestion would be to reduce the minimum setting to something more
realistic, such as 100 mb or so.
2 caveats regarding this change:
1. You may need to reconfigure your memory dump options (Control
Panel - System - Advanced and click on the Settings button in the
Startup and Recovery (bottom) section. If you want to use the
"complete memory dump" option, which is the default and which also is
totally unnecessary at least 99 and 44/100%^ of the time, then your
minimum page file has to be at least equal to the total amount of RAM.
2. If you have certain Norton products (or more accurately if your
computer is infested with certain Norton products) then you will find
that the pagefile settings will be automatically reset to the Windows
default values (1.5 times RAM) unless you make some changes in the
Norton setup. This applies in particular to systems using NAV2004 or
Norton Corporate 9.0
Good luck
