My laptop starts up and it shows the "unable to create a pagefile" message. I have been on Kelly Theriot's website and tried those options, to no avail. I have tried the windows kb resolution, still a problem. Finally i have been at http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.php and tried the possiblitlies that have to do with my problem. I have tried setting my pagefile to none, and restarting in safe mode and trying to find the pagefile.sys and delete it. It isn't there (have gone into folder options, and show all and unchecked the hide system files (recommended), it still isn't there in the c:\ drive). Are there any other possiblities? or do i have to get all the information backed up and reformat my harddrive and hope it works?

Intel chipset? A corrupted Intel Application Accelerator is suspect.
Remove it, if it shows up in Control Panel|ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS,
and things should clear up immediately.

Then go here, read up, and install the latest I.A.A. - for greatest
efficiency (though it's not mandatory).

My laptop was sent from dell with xp pro installed. I have the Intel 845MP /MZ chipset which is not supported with IAA. I tried removing my ata controller and restarting my computer, but i still have the same issue.
