Here's the error message:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. If the screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any hardware or software is properly installed. If this
is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any
windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software, disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you
need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer,
press f8 to select advanced startup options, then select safe mode.
Technical information
***STOP 0x00000050
(0xf86eef12, 0x00000000, 0xf86ad051, 0x00000000)

Here's what I've done so far. I've run memtest86 3.2, checked out good, run
chkdsk, everything ok, run diskcleanup, run spyware check, searched for
suspect files msupd5.exe and reloadmedude.exe, they are not on my computer.
I have NOT disabled BIOS memor options such as caching or shadowing because I
don't know how to.

Here are the symptoms. Approximately once out of every 3 times I boot up my
computer, it blue screens with the above message. Then it takes me approx 3
times to boot up before it will boot up successfully. When it boots up
successfully, everything runs perfectly.

Here are two other error message that are in event viewer.

The print port scanner driver service failed to start due to the following
error: The service cannot be started either because it is deisabled or
because it had no enable devices associated with it.

This error stems from when I unsuccessfully tried to connect a scanner that
I used with my old computer but it was not compatible with xp. I have
removed it, but clearly, my startup is still trying to find it. I get this
error when I start up successfuly, though.

Another error in event viewer that might be more important:
This does not occur during bootup.
Windows saved user KOESTER/Administrator registry while an application or
service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the
user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is
no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring
the service to run either the LocalService or NationalService account.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what "service" is causing this error.

This page fault error has been occuring for several months, so system
restore is not an option. I cannot think of any hardware or software that I
have added within that time period.

Any help would be appreciated.

I forgot to tell you what kind of computer I have

Gateway Media center
Intel processor
3 GHz
512 Ram

Up to date on all windows updates

I think I fixed the problem, but since it is intermittent, I'm not certain yet.

I downloaded the program UPHCleaner from Microsoft. I've had good boot ups
since.
