I'll try to make this short. I've got two computers sharing a router, one
wired and the other wireless. Both are running XP Home and are configured
the same. Here's the problem....On this machine, (wired) I can't get on to
the mlb.com (major league baseball) message boards. I can get on the sites,
but when I click on message boards it just hangs for awhile, and then I get
the white page that says page unavailable, dns server down, check settings,
etc.... The other computer (wireless) gets on just fine, no problems. I
feel there is something in IE that's not configured right, but I can't find
it. Both machines have the same settings, both use Norton Systemworks 2006
and the Norton Firewall.

On the wired system, I can get on to other message boards, but I think that
it's really odd that I can't get on to the mlb boards. Norton says there
aren't any viruses or worms, but I'm not sure what to do next.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi Jim.

I'm not an expert, but I do have plenty of experience with Symantec
products--specifically, plenty of experience hating them and being given
trouble by them in the form of the most unobvious wacko problems
imaginable. Case in point: an acquaintance of mine asked me to take a
look at her PC since, for some reason, she was unable to access her
webmail account (which, in this case, was Hotmail) through Internet
Explorer. Before even looking at her PC, I logged into her Hotmail
account from my house to ensure that her account was extant and
available--both of which it was. So if I could see it, why couldn't she?

Well, I cleared her browser cache, I did this, I did that, but I was
making absolutely no headway...until I noticed that she had Symantec's
blasted Norton Internet Security installed on the machine. Now, mind
you, NIS wasn't even *ENABLED*, it was merely *PRESENT* on the machine!
I uninstalled it and lo and behold, Hotmail could be accessed from her
PC once more. The moral of this story? Symantec products--especially
those which carry the "Norton" moniker--aren't always the cause of
Windows-based-PC-woes...but they're always the first you check! ;)

I hope this helps!
Cheers!
