Using PPT 2002 SP2 on a WIN XP Pro, SP1 machine. When I go into Page Setup,
the page size measurements are metric (centimeters). Same in <view> <grid
and guides>. <tools> <options> doesn't have any means to change these
settings.

How can I change this setting to English (inches)?

I've looked in help, searched this site, etc., without success. No other
Office XP program installed does this.

Same program (from the same CD) installed on another computer (Win 98SE)
reads in inches. On a WIN XP Home SP1 laptop, it also reads in inches (I
have an MS action pack with five seat licenses so there's no problem with
activation.)

Any help appreciated.

PowerPoint uses the OS' measurement system, so it makes sense that you are
seeing different systems used on different machines. What you need to do is
to go to the computer that is measuring in inches and change the regional
settings for your computer (Control Panel > Regional & Language).

Post back and let us know how it goes!

My regional and language settings <Ctrl Panel> <Regional and Language>
<Customize> <Measurements> were and still are set to US, not metric. On
this computer, Word, Excel and Project (all 2002 version) all display inches
in page setup. Only PowerPoint displays cm.

I want to get rid of the metric presentation in PowerPoint, not add it to
the other machines.

Hello Samsome,

PowerPoint for Windows (all versions) does not have the ability to change
the units of measurement from within the application and, instead, relies
on the "Measurement System" from the "Regional and Languange
Options"control panel.

If it's important to you (or anyone else reading this message) PowerPoint
to provide the ability to control the units of measurement from directly
within PowerPoint as either a PowerPoint setting or a per-presentation
setting, don't forget to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)

John:

Thanks for the advice. But as you'll notice from my response to Kathryn,
the Measurement System on the offending computer is US, not METRIC.

Something else is causing ONLY PowerPoint to act this way. No other
Microsoft 2002 application I have on this computer uses metric, only this
PowerPoint app.

Hello Samsome

That shouldn't be happening. If no one on the newsgroups is able to resolve
this, here is a link to page with information about how to contact
Microsoft Product Support Services for assistance (assuming it's not an OEM
version of PowerPoint which was with your computer).

Hint number one, folks: the Mac version does have this ability. Inches,
points, centimeters, iambic pentameters, you name it, they got it. Should
be possible in ours too, then.

Hint number two, folks: Like John sez:
