page range - how dumb is this?

H

Haraldo

Hi... new here. And new owner of Outlook 2007 (SMB). I quickly ran into the
"where's the Page Range" question for printing. Perused the various threads
here with all the weird workarounds.

So to get this straight in my mind: Outlook 2007 does NOT allow indication
of page range in the Print dialogue box? Could this possibly be true? If this
is true WHAT IS MS THINKING? Page Range has been a core feature of digital
printing from the get-go. Not to have this is amazingly studid, costly,
wasteful, and enviromentally insensitive.

What am I missing? If nothing, then what is the best solution here?

Appreciate any feedback.

A puzzled Haraldo.

Outlook's printing has always had range control ONLY when the message is in
HTML format. Nothing has changed in that regard. What has change, however,
is the rendering engine. Prior to Outlook 2007, IE was used as the rendering
engine and so printing HTML messages had range control in Outlook. Now that
Word is the rendering engine, you must open the message in IE to get IE's
range control.

Outlook has never included the page range - it used IE's or Words when those
printing engine were available.

FWIW, Outlook 2007 SP2 (available now as the feb cumulative update) does
offer page ranges.

Sorry to be so strident. I find this all a bit in-elegant as I'm used to
printing directly from the app I'm working in. But thanks very much for these
comments.

Couple of quick followups:

1. How do I open a message in IE? Can't find it in Outlook help. (FYI:
messages are in HTML)

2. How do I determine which SPX is associated with my Outlook version? (just
purchased it) I would be a little hesitant in upgrading anything so early on.
I'm connected via an Exchange Server to a very large corporation and don't
want to mess around with anything at the moment. But maybe after I've more
experience.

Thanks for continued advice.

Look in help, About - it gives the version/build info. See
http://www.slipstick.com/exs/versions.htm#o2007 for build #.
You should let outlook install the updates from Microsoft update - it won't
include the Feb CU until SP2 is officially released - unless this is a
company computer, then you need to ask the admin.

See http://www.slipstick.com/mail1/print.asp - Message tab, choose Other
Actions, View in Browser then print from the browser.

Bingo!

It's definitely a WORKaround, but it's something. And think I'll wait for
the official update.

Thanks to you both for your replies. Very helpful.
