Page numbers go awry

I have a large document template and I import a lot of text from other documents into it. I find that randomly the page numbers I have set up in the original document will revert to '1' in different parts of the document and either start again or continue on '1' for the rest of the document. This in turn ruins the contents page. I was hoping people knew of which options to check to try and fix this. I have tried all the obvious things, I think. thanks

Numbering can be restarted in any section, so if you have many section
breaks, then you'll need to go into each section, Format Page Number, and
change to "Continue from previous section."

Have you checked for section breaks? Turn on your paragraph mark and look
for section breaks....Word may be starting the numbers over after a break.

Just an idea!
