Need word help

Anyone know how to handle page numbering when you need to
have both landscape and portrait in the same document?

This article basically says it can't be done because a
new section break that changes the page orientation
starts a new page even if you use continuous.

Certainly it can be done. When you create your Section break (next page)
and change to landscape, enter the Footer (or Header), make sure the "Same
as Previous" is unchecked on the toolbar, then change your page numbering.
If the numbering is already there, highlight it, click the "Format Page
Number" icon (third from left), then change the number to start on whatever
number you want. Be sure to include another Section Break when going back
to portrait and start it's page numbering with the number you need.

What is it that you want to do that the change of orientation seems to be
preventing you from doing?
If you just chage the orientation, the numbering will continue, albeit the
header/footer will be on the long side of the paper.

Just change the orientation, Word will insert the section break and Same as
Previous is by default selected, so the numbering will continue.
Can you give us more details as to what it is you are trying to do?

What is it that can't be done? The article is a general overview of using
section breaks.

Hi Bill,

Just a little comment, if all you want to do is change the starting number
or the numbering format (1, 2, 3, d, e, vi, vii, etc.) then you do not need
to uncheck "Same as previous".
Just place the cursor anywhere in the header/footer (it does not matter
which one even if the page number is in the footer, you can have the cursor
in the header) and bring up the "page numbering format" dialog and do what
you have to do!

I just created a document to make sure: 4 pages, 4 sections, all with "Same
as Previous" on; pages numbers were as follows:

Physical page # 1 : page number [- 0 -]
Physical page # 2 : page number [G]
Physical page # 3 : page number [XV]
Physical page # 4 : page number [p]

Okay, thanks. I never really thought about wanting to leave it as "Same as
previous" if it wasn't. Good to know though! By the way, congrats on Word
MVP! Will I see you in April?

Hi Bill,

Thanks.

Would love to, but everything is happening so fast... I did not expect the
honour, and neither was I prepared for the onslaught that followed!

So I do not think I can make it this year. I will keep on working hard and
hope to be renewed and then I will be ready in 2005!
