page file stuck at zero after re-loading windows xp

page file does not respond to input by the usual method
that error message explains , and offline help center
also describes . simply stays at zero after restarting
computer as prompted . does not immediately change with
apply/ok buttons either . constant isufficient virtual
memory messages which claim windows is increasing vm ,
but usually shut off games and or webpages instead . can
anyone suggest alternate method of increasing page file
for vittual mem? j.

The most common mistake in this is that the user makes all the correct moves
but forgets to click the Change button. This is easy to miss, since no other
Windows dialogue box has you click two different buttons to get a setting to
save. Make your changes, click Change, then click Apply or OK.

I have this same issue and recently my system began
performing like you described, slow and almost
worthless. I have not fixed it although I ran a system
restore back about 6 weeks and now the performance is as
good as ever but still no pagefile is being set. XP
manages the virtual memory for me everytime, but more
importantly I have my speed back. Two Updates containg
numerous hot fixes were removed with the restore.
