Hi

I have my pagefile (WIN-XP-PRO) on a secondary drive, I notice in the
de-frag 'chart' that it is in the middle of the drive. Would it be better at
the beginning of the drive? and if so how do I move it?. I have Norton
System Works speed disk if this helps ?

ps sorry if this appears twice, one vanished somewhere!

Best is, if youhave some partitioning software like Partition Magic, to
create a dedicated partition for your page file. Thsi will increase speed
and avoid fragmentation of your other drives due to swapping.

It's not 'that' important where it is really. As long as it's on a fast
drive and a contigous block. I take it your 'secondary drive' isn't
significantly slower than your primary?

Main drive is 7200 other with swap file is 5400

Not a good scenario. I would have the pagefile on the 7,200 drive
personally. Unless you've got 1GB+ RAM, and even then I would still put the
PF on the fast drive. XP likes to put stuff in PF even if you have ample
RAM.

IMO/E Speedisk sucks arse. It stresses the drive considerably on each run
and doesn't appear to speed up application start-up. (At least on a
reasonably fast PC/HDD). I have systemworks installed on this machine but
wouldn't dream of running speedisk, I've had it destroy older drives,
causing more and more bad sectors on each run. (I can qualify this if anyone
takes issue with it). I use Diskeeper for housework and it does an admirable
job.

Thanks for the info :-)
