recently i went online to find some dragon themes for my wifes login. i found
some and installed them. come to find out they were loaded with spyware crud.
i removed them. i ran spybot and adaware to see what was goin on. they pulled
up a whole bunch-o-crud. i deleted them. i ran nis2004 and it came up with 13
hits. it removed only 3. i had to hunt down each of the rest of them one by
one and delete them. i use netzero highspeed. but everytime i try to get
online it loads up the netzero page and at the bottom it says: done but with
errors on page. it seems as though it is only on the netzero site and only a
few different pages on there that it does that. and even sometimes i have to
retry connecting 2 or 3 times cause as soon as the ie pops up it drops
connection. i have all the settings right. i have also left word to netzero
about it. i dont know if maybe some of that crud screwed up something either
on ie6 or netzero's software. i dont have sp2 installed and probably wont for
some time because i've been warned by a technician that it would screw up my
computer. anyway, my question is, does anybody know whether or not i might
need to reinstall ie6, which i got the download from here, or maybe its just
my netzero software i might have to reinstall? you can email me at
(e-mail address removed) or i can check back here later.

a previuops ver already running or some crap. so i rebooted. tried to connect
again. and this time it did without any problem. and i didnt get the page
errors on netzero i even got the download of of another copy whereas before
it wouldnt let me cause of the page error. i havent got a clue what happened,

well i had another little episode. ie didnt crash but i experienced some page
errors due to a error coming up saying that security setting was not set to
allow activex controls to be displyed on this page may not display right,
with a error page at the bottom of screen. it would load and seem to be ok.
but it only, as far as i know on yahoo and msn this time. netzero was ok. i
ended up reinstalling scripten and resetting internet options to autodetect
setting seems to be better. but still a bit slow loading pages. so i also
deleted the cookies and the temp folder. thought maybe there was a corrupt
file in there or cookie. still loading up pages a bit slow but much faster
than before that. probably cause now i have to go to each place i've been
going and it has to load from scratch and restore the cookies for that place.
after i go around it should be faster after they get stored again.

well i had another little episode. ie didnt crash but i experienced
some page errors due to a error coming up saying that security
setting was not set to allow activex controls to be displyed on this
page may not display right, with a error page at the bottom of
screen. it would load and seem to be ok. but it only, as far as i
know on yahoo and msn this time. netzero was ok. i ended up
reinstalling scripten and resetting internet options to autodetect
setting seems to be better. but still a bit slow loading pages. so i
also deleted the cookies and the temp folder. thought maybe there was
a corrupt file in there or cookie. still loading up pages a bit slow
but much faster than before that. probably cause now i have to go to
each place i've been going and it has to load from scratch and
restore the cookies for that place. after i go around it should be
faster after they get stored again.

Try the following and see if it helps:

Download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware
may kill your internet connection. If this should occur, this
program, LSPFIX, will enable you to regain your connection.

Also, get a copy of WINSOCKXPFIX available at:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
and
WinsockXP Fix- WinXP
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
Also, with instructions, at
http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm
also
From LavaSoft- all versions of Windows-

also ....
(It is reported that in XP SP2, the command netsh winsock reset
will fix this problem without the need for these programs.)

or ........

http://www.dfwonline.net/files/WinsockFix.zip

also.......

Download HijackThis, free, here:
http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe (Always
download a new fresh copy of HijackThis [and CWShredder also] -
It's UPDATED frequently.) You may also get it here if that link is
blocked:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=3155&file=3&evp=3304750663b552982a8baee6434cfc13

In Windows Explorer, click on Tools|Folder Options|View and check
"Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected
operating system files". (You may want to restore these when
you're all finished with HijackThis.)

Unzip the downloaded HijackThis to any convenient folder, start it
then press Scan. Click on SaveLog when it's finished which will
create hijackthis.log. Now click the Config button, then Misc Tools
and click on Generate StartupList.log which will create
Startuplist.txt

your PC has CD read capabilities, go to another computer with
CD-ROM burning capabilities. Create a folder on the hard drive of
the other computer called HOLD, download the programs to that
folder, then burn that folder to a CD. Copy the HOLD folder to
your HD and then install the programs from there and run them.
After you have IE access again, update all programs where possible
to get the latest definitions and run them again in Safe Mode to be
sure there are no lingering items on the system.

it does that. and even sometimes i have to retry connecting 2 or 3
times cause as soon as the ie pops up it drops connection. i have
all the settings right. i have also left word to netzero about it.
i dont know if maybe some of that crud screwed up something either
on ie6 or netzero's software. i dont have sp2 installed and
probably wont for some time because i've been warned by a

i've alway had my settings for internet and intranet set at

firefox is a bit diff. you have to keep going to the browser each time and

but i have so many places in my list it wont list then all unless i choose
open tab. then i have all these little deals stuck across the bottom of the
upper browser header and i cant tell which is which. anyway i just ran a
checkdisk set to auto correct errors. and apparently it fixed some things.
too quick to see what it did screen only stays up for aboput 2 or 3 secs. but
im using the IE6 now and i havent seen any popup messages for activex or
script allowing yet. i have been to several sites and forum places and
nothing yet. maybe that fixed it. maybe there was a error someplace that was
causing it due to me removing those darn themes. who knows, but it seems ok
now. might be just temp. though. i'll just have to wait and see. but i linked
to those places you gave me. the winsock and other stuff and these in case it
happens again maybe theyll help if need be for it again. i appreciate the
