I'm a web designer, and I go to my customers websites alot to see how the
changes are showing up. I don't want my computer to register as a hit or page
count on their counter. Is there a way to disable this option in IE6? There
use to be a way in 5 (I think), but I can't figure it out here.

Thanks!

One way that I know of right off is to disable images in IE -
Tools...Internet Options...Advanced tab, Multimedia section - uncheck "Show
Pictures", click Apply, click Okay. That way IE will not call the image of
the counter - or any other image in the site, however. Other counters may
be prevented from being hit by disabling scripting via the Security tab,
Custom button, and/or disabling cookies on the Privacy tab. But all these
methods can mess with the way the page in question displays.

You could also try and put an entry to the counter's server/host in your
computer's Hosts file, to prevent it from being accessed/activated. More
info on the Hosts file here:

After putting the entry in the Hosts file, you'll need to reboot to make it
active.
