Seems that on some sights (eg: Hotmail) there are areas of the page that are
not loading (appears to be advertising spaces). I've done the Shockwave
un-load, load, same with Java etc... yet, some areas of the site are not
loading. I am by no means a computer expert and I'm tired of talking through
stuff with MS Helpdesks... anybody think they can help? I'm running a basic
home computer with very little software - just the basics. I do not believe
that my issue has anything to do with spyware/malicious software as I have
scanned and have AVG and WIndow protection. Thanks,.

Hi,
Are you running a HOSTS file?

To check the HOSTS file in Windows XP...
Make sure that Windows is showing hidden files and is
not hiding file extensions for known file types then check for a HOSTS file
at [C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc] Open the HOSTS file with notepad. If
there are entries you wish to disable, you can put the pound sign (#) in
front an entry to disable it. Then File> Save. Or you can rename the HOSTS
file to HOSTS.OLD to disable it.
In Win 9x, the file will be at [C:\Windows]
In Win 2K, the file will be at [C:\WINNT\System32\Drivers\etc]

Additional info at:
Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File:

Hope this helps,

In addition to Don's post re your Hosts file, have you installed any app or
toolbar that has a Flash-blocking component? If you could give an example
or two of a site, and what's missing, that could also be helpful in
diagnosing your problem.

On hotmail I get a large white section on the right of the main section. I
don't think there's a problem with your computer. Many Web pages are set up
to only use a certain width, so if your IE window is wider you'll get a
blank area which may or may not be colored, depending on the code on the
page.
