Ok, gotta remember how to do this.... I'd like you to try a different DNS
server.
Your ADSL modem should have a setup page accessible via a Web browser...
generally accessed via IP address 192.168.0.1 or similar. That setup
page
should allow you to set DNS server.
Write down your original settings so that you can change back; see if you
can change your primary and secondary DNS to the following addresses
(hoping
they're not locked to Bigpond users only):
61.9.240.14
61.9.224.15
61.9.134.49

I did that. Here are the results:

Ok, then your problem is DNS. That points directly to HOSTS file, or
a
problem with your DNS Server (which is your ISP's responsibility).
You ran the command:
ipconfig /flushdns
Yes?
Go to a command line and type:
ipconfig /all
Please post back the results.

Yes I can view it when i type the numbers in the address bar.
Hurray!
:
You're not reading the advice carefully enough. My site does not
say
to
delete smartdrv (which is a file that is stored on a Windows
startup
disk).
It says to *run* smartdrv, and then only when booting with a
startup
disk.
/rereg won't work with anything less than XP SP2 IIRC.
Go to the file menu in IE; is "work offline" enabled? Are you able
to
access the site if you type into the addressbar 204.9.225.200?

Hi! I've tried the ipconfig /flushdns. I've exported cookies.
I
tried
iexplore /rereg which wasn't a recognised command. I tried to
locate
the
files which your website said to delete (smartdrv etc), but I
can't
find
them
and neither does the computer when i search for them.
:
The 98se, winme and win98 are the sam files so i assume i ignore
them.
I
changed the name of the hosts file in system32 but it hasn't
made a
difference at all. My computer is a hewlett packard which we
bought
from
comet with windows xp preinstalled on it.

system32,
especially if it doesn't have a file type extension.
What is the history of this system? Who built it? What are the
contents
of
the 98se, winme and win98 directories? They are worrying me.

I haven't a clue. I jst did a search for the word hosts and
lots
of
files
came up containing the word. Win98se, winme and win98 were
in
the
column
headed files folder. The computer I've got came with
Windows
XP
already
installed on it. Win98se and winme have also both got an
imhosts
file and
win98 has an lmhosts file. The date they were last modified
was
05/08/2003.
They are all SAM files. In system32\drivers\etc I've got
hosts
file,
hosts.msn and imhosts and i've got a hosts file in
C:\WINDOWS\I386
and
also
an lmhosts.sa file also in that same folder. Does any of
that
tell
you
anything?
:
Operating system does make a difference; the most likely
culpfit
would be
in
system32/drivers.
Why do you have a win98se, winme and win98 directory?

Hi! Thanks for replying. I've not tried it yet as i
have a
few
files
called
Host.
They are located in the following folders:
Temporary Directory 1 for acsnet.zip\WIN98SE
C:\WINDOWS\I386
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
WIN98SE
WINME
WIN98
Am i meant to have this many? I forgot to say I'm on XP.
Don't
know
if
that makes a difference.
:
Search your computer for a hidden file called HOSTS.
Rename
that
file
to
HOSTS.OLD. Test.
