I am trying to help a friend with an XP problem. Here is
her description:

"I have my homepage set for ebay. How come everytime I
connect to the internet I get the "page cannot be
displayed" message? When I click on home then it takes me
right to ebay."

Her system is a new Dell and none of the defaults in XP
have been changed. Changing her home page to he ISP's
doesn't help. It still does the same thing.

Any ideas?

Could be some hijacker spyware trash:
Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
Delete all cookies, Delete all Temporary Internet Files (include offline
content),
then click on the "Settings" button next to "Delete files" > click on "View
Objects"
remove all Downloaded Program Files and then close that Window and click OK
to the Settings window. Clear History.
Click on the Advanced tab of Internet Options > Browsing section
uncheck "Enable third-party browser instructions (requires restart)"
Click Apply and OK at the bottom of Internet Options.
Close Control Panel:
Restart computer
Go on the Internet and download one or both of these Anti Spyware programs:

Ad-aware 6.0 build 181
http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10214379.html?tag=list

Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.2
http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10194058.html?tag=list

(save the executable to a folder or desktop) Close your browser
and then install and scan your system with them and delete any detected
spywares.
Update the Anti Spyware program and scan again.
Restart computer.
Go to Internet Options again and on the General tab, make sure the correct
Home Page is set.
See if the issue is now resolved.

Please post back with results one way or the other.
