I am a student going to a university, and I share an apartment with a friend from my hometown. Last year, we decided to split the cost of a DSL connection and my roommate, Jeff, bought a router to connect to the DSL modem and plug our connections into the router.

It worked perfectly for several months, but early this year, at an apparently random moment, it ceased giving me access to certain websites and programs. For example, I am no longer able to use my webcam or enable voice-chatting software in messaging programs, unable to use file-sharing programs, and am unable to access the following website, which is absolutely vital to my university life:

https://gssun2.cc.georgiasouthern.edu:4567/pls/PROD/twbkwbis.P_GenMenu?name=homepage

He recently bought a new router to test it, and the same problem occurred; however, when I plug my connection directly into the DSL modem rather than through the router, everything works perfectly. Neither of us are able to figure out what could be causing this problem, and we haven't any idea how to go about solving it.

Can anyone here please give me some help or suggestions on what could be causing this seemingly bizarre problem and what can be done to fix it?

That's pretty strange. When you installed the new
router, did you set it up properly and rebooted?

My first suspicion would be a router configuration issue,
something setup to block things. You might also try
checking your HOSTS file and run ipconfig /flushdns.
If that doesn't help, I'll start getting very supecious if
I were you.

BTW, also try a different cable, just to rule it
out as a possibility.
