I can access any Web site with the exception of one. I contacted the
Webmaster of the site in question and he assures me there are no problems on
his end. Why am I able to access all other Web sites with the exception of
this particular one and how can I correct this problem? Thank you!

Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and remove any line referencing the site.
Or, rename HOSTS to OLDHOSTS

Thanks. There was no line referencing the site in the "HOSTS file. I
therefore renamed "HOSTS" to "OLDHOSTS" but it did not solve the problem. Do
you have any other suggestions? Thanks very much!

With Internet Explorer open, I suggest you investigate:
Tools > Internet Options... > Privacy (tab) > Sites...(button)
See if the URL you mention is in the list of
Managed Web sites: as "Always Block" under the Settings column
If so, you need to remove it from that list.
Are you willing to reveal what website it is that you cannot view?

After weeks of trying to fix my problem, I found this forum just before I was
going to reformat and re-install Windows XP; and found a resolution to my
problem. I did 2 things so I do not know which one fixed the problem. First
I did as Frank suggested...renamed the HOSTS file. I also downloaded the
Microsoft Anti Spyware beta program. It found 4 items that Adaware and
Spybot did not find. One of these items had something to do with making
browser changes. Between doing these two things, my problem has been
resolved as well as a problem with MSN Messenger. Thanks so very much for
the information you have given to people on this forum Frank!!

Thanks for the help. I have already renamed the HOSTS file to OLDHOSTS. It
did not correct the problem. The Microsoft Anti Spyware beta program is not
supported in Windows ME, which is the OS that I am using.

I don't know if this info is relevant to my situation, but I have a file
named "LMHOSTS" in addition to the "OLDHOSTS" file. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. The site's URL is not on the "Always Block" list.
The site is an adult forum whose URL is http://www.spamfreeforums.com/cfnm/.
I had no problem accessing this site until only a few days ago. Any other suggestions?

Check for connectivity with this site using telnet 80

E.g. open a cmd window and enter:

telnet www.spamfreeforums.com 80

If a connection can be established the screen will clear.

Type: GET /
(That's GET<space><slash><Enter>. You will not see your typing.)

When I do that I see:

<example>
<h1>This is the Plesk™ default page</h1>
<p>If you see
this page it means:<br><br>
1) hosting for this domain is not configured<br>
or<br>
2) there's no such domain registered in Plesk.</p>
</example>

This indicates that the site may be expecting that all connections
are with HTTP 1.1 protocol. So if you don't have that checkbox set
(in Options, Advanced tab) you might want to try changing that too.

If you see the above (HTTP 1.0) response you can try to elicit
a simulated HTTP 1.1 response by entering instead of the previous GET
request the following two lines:

GET http://www.spamfreeforums.com/cfnm/ HTTP/1.1
Host: www.spamfreeforums.com

E.g. copy and paste those lines into the telnet input window
(Paste using right-click Paste and then press Enter.)

You will probably need to issue a third Enter to see the response.

Thank you!
