I get a lot of messages from users of my website that
it's not working, the last one I asked what she searched
for and she said 647 (area code in canada).

Go to http://www.areadecoder.com and enter 647 into the
search box, or simply use the querystring:
http://www.areadecoder.com/decoderscript?
SearchString=647&handle=americom

It doesn't work. Now try modifying ANY digit in
the "SearchString=647" part and it will work.
www.areadecoder.com/decoderscript?SearchString=647
Now it doesn't work again.
Any ideas? I haven't a clue myself.

Would there be a timing difference in the two lookups?
It looks as if IE is waiting for about a second and then resending
the same request. I'm not sure where such parameters would
be stored. I used to point out a post that Kent W. England
had made about that as a possible answer for the Red-X issue
but got a reply from him that he didn't think that the ones he was
disclosing were applicable to that.

(Google Groups search for:
"Red-X" "Kent W. England" aldwinckle author:england group:microsoft.*.ie6.*
)

Hmm... as an experiment in case https: protocol would have
enough extra handshakes etc. to workaround the supposed
timeout problem I changed the last URL in the Address bar,
replied to all the prompts about switching between secure
and insecure connections, and found that the problem lookup
may redirect to:

< http://telecom.nothing-but-net.net/cgi-bin/callbackintro.cgi?rk=21WySMV2Pd4q. >

Would that make sense?
