Page can not be display.....cannot find server or DNS error

for some reason or another my workstations get "page can not be display...
can not find server or DNS error" when they go to at least 2 web pages and
the speed of bringing them up is very slow, (web page is nbc.com than
clicking on the winter olympics). I have the users reboot their Workstations
and still have the problem
All updates have been downloaded and installed on the Workstations.
Acouple of users said that they were able to get to the web site yesterday.

The only difference was I did Windows Update on 3 of the servers this
morning, however only 1 said it needed to be rebooted.

I went to my server that has IIS (which I did NOT do the Windows updates on)
and was able to get out to the web site with no problem whatsoever. the
speed was quick on bringing up both web pages.

I am planning on rebooting all my servers tonight to see if that clears up
the problem, but if anyone has another solution that would be great. Before
I do reboot should I do the updates on my server that has IIS on it? or just
wait to see if rebooting the other servers work?

Any idea why this might be happening?

Hi luv2bike2 :-0

Check for a hosts file (justs "hosts" not hosts.sam or lmhosts) in these
locations:
Windows XP. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
You may have to enable the viewing of hidden files.

Rename your HOSTS file to OLDHOSTS and see if the problem persists.

also..

Page cannot be displayed (Server or DNS error)
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/16.html

Page Cannot be Found and/or DNS/Server Error - line 68 - right side
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/dns.reg
You may need to scroll down the page to find the text on this website.

I that does not help, then check the following:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm
If nothing works you can reinstall IE with this program.

Hope this helps.

document it for later use whether or not it is for me or others to help in
their computer relation issues.

Just to let you know---Even though I was able to get to the web site that we
were having a problem initially, and thinking rebooting the servers help
clear that up, it was not. I was having an issue in getting into more web
site this morning, after digging around, using tracert on the web site that I
was trying to get to, the hops were going, than stopped.. I than called our
T1 provider tech support and before you get a live person there was a message
saying that they were experiencing intermittent network issues and they are
working on the problem. They have fixed the problem!
