Hi -
I'm very new to powerpoint (2002) and am curious as to whether, when you
save onto a CD using Pack and Go, the presentation on another computer
installs the viewer, or whether the viewer runs from the CD.

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian.

First, do not save directly to the CD. Save to your HD, and then move the files to your CD. If your going to put your presentation onto CD, I would scrap Pack n Go and create an Autorun CD check this out. http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00037.htm

You could try this method (uses pack & go to create the files to burn)
1.. Use Pack and Go to gather all of the linked files into one folder.

1.. Click on Pack and Go under the File menu.
a.. Click on the Next button.
b.. Select the presentation which you want to Pack and Go.
c.. Choose the Destination for the Pack and Go files. Click on the Next
button.
d.. Select Include Linked Files and Embed True Type Fonts (if desired).
Click on the Next button.
e.. Select the option to include the PowerPoint Viewer. Click on the
Next button.
f.. Click on the Finish button.
2. Prepare the portfolio for placing on a CD-ROM.
a.. Close MS PowerPoint
b.. Locate and double click on the pngsetup.exe file located in the
Pack and Go folder.
c.. Enter a folder name for the destination folder (folder must be
empty) - e.g. C:\portfolio.
d.. When the presentation successfully installs, click on No when
asked to run the slideshow.
e.. Open Notepad.
f.. Type the following two lines:
[autorun]
open = ppview32.exe filename.ppt

g.. Save the file as autorun.inf in the folder created above
(C:\portfolio).
h.. If your presentation contained any hyperlinks to files, you must
open the presentation and change the links. You must use a URL link instead
of a file link, and you must enter the path to the CD-ROM instead of the
path to the file on the hard drive. (e.g., D:/filename).
3. Burn the CD, placing all of the files from the folder created in Step
#2 on the CD.

Hi David -
Thanks very much for the information - I'll give your method a try.
Cheers,
Brian.

Thanks Michael for the advice - I'll do as you suggest. I have looked at the
site that you suggested and am going to study it in depth.
Thanks again.

Powerpoint 2003 has a "save to CD" feature that creates
an autorun file as well as saving any linked files to the
cd. Very nicely done.
