same thing happened here presented the following explanation :
how do you stop it from identifying it as spyware

Hi

Choose to not install it with bundled spyware.

Uninstall and install again and choose to not install
with bundled ads. Easy.

Or if you wish to use it with spyware, choose "Always ignore"
for this threat.

It isn't being identified as spyware, but as a "software bundler."

When Patchou changes the behavior of the program so that it doesn't violate
the defined terms, and notifies Microsoft that the behavior has changed, so
that they can verify that, I would expect that the detection might change.

Hi Bill

MS changed this:

http://www.msgplus.net/news.php
""
Microsoft AntiSpyware steps back! - 24/09/2005
We have yet to receive an official answer from Microsoft regarding the
problems caused by their AntiSpyware product, however, it seems that
they have finally started to realize some of their mistakes! An update
was made to the spyware definition files on September 23rd and the
msgplus.exe program is not detected as a threat at run time anymore!
(like this: see previous warning) this is a huge success for Messenger
Plus! as this problem was the very reason that triggered the need for a
petition in August. This step back from MSAS is proof alone that some
parts of the add-on were indeed flagged incorrectly and that we didn't
fight for nothing. You can be sure that the support you gave to
Messenger Plus! on so many internet sites and forums, in addition to
the petition, is what made this change a reality. In any case,
msgplus.exe is not falsely accused of things it does not do anymore and
that's all what matters.

We would like to thank Microsoft for taking this matter seriously and
not ignoring what their users had to say about this issue. There are
still several problems surrounding the detection and removal of
Messenger Plus! and its sponsor program but we hope that we will be
able to work on that together as well in the near future.""

So install it without any sponsor or ads.

plun

Bill Sanderson expressed precisely :

Thanks, Plun - I don't keep up with all the details on this stuff, clearly.

I've got an off topic question for you, and I'm stuck using HTML interfaces
for the day:

Have you seen on machines in your geographic locale, complaints from users
who don't have legal copies of Windows XP about popups occurring at startup,
giving them a warning/reminder of some sort about that status?

Feel free to respond by mail--but I probably won't read it for another 7
hours or more.

Hi

What spyware definition version/number are you using ?
Help - About

Update with Menu File - check for updates.

same thing happened here brought next idea :

Can you post exactly how it is described?
(i.e. how Microsoft Antispyware describes Messenger Plus--when detected on
your system?)

Are you using the current download available from Messenger Plus? What's
the version number?

This is an issue that many people are interested in--sorry to be pestering
you with questions, but we need to get the details clear.

Hi Plun

I felt inclined to suggest: "Don`t download it at all then MSAS won`t tag
it". Then forgetting I had site advisor installed (thanks to you), I
navigated to the URL supplied in your post and found it was Red Listed by
siteadvisor which wouldn`t let me download anyway - seems that any site
containing reference to Messenger Plus is Red Listed in Google!! So, petition
or no petition either news is travelling slowly or there are those of us who
are still not altogether convinced :)

Hi Stu

Messenger plus is a popular application among
young users.

If all user did not install the sponsor program
this was no problem and Patchou could not earn any
money out of ad/spyware.

Within another message in this thread you also could
read that MS changed definition for this app.

I also tested out Live Messenger and they have not
included Patchous "must have" functions which
a lot of Messenger plus fans like. So this story will
for sure go on.

And of course "Site advisory" is really great, I like the
analysis functions to really follow a bad site to more sites.

I haven´t seen any prize yet for this application.
