when i boot up there's no signal to monitor but all fans are running!
the hard drives are spinning too. I tested power supply, cpu, and ram
on another computer and they all tested okay. I pulled video card and
pulled video directly into the motherboard, but still no signal. the
standby light seems to be stuck on when i turn computer on too. i
imagine this is the motherboard's way of telling me something's wrong
with it. When i tried booting with the support CD (rescue CD sort of
deal) in drive to no effect. it was like computer didn't even read it.
before this, the computer was running fine and then all of the sudden
it crashed. I clared the rtc ram too and there was no change. Are
there any viruses that cause symptoms like this, or did my mb just say
the hard goodbye? thanks for your time and energy in advance.

Try disconnecting floppy drives and optical drives and hard drives with
different combinations.

If you at least get a boot up screen or can get to BIOS it is one of those
devices.

If not, maybe RAM or even a BIOS flash needed.

Just try and eliminate some of the peripherals by disconnecting them and
adding them one by one.

Martin.

thanks for the reply. i tried unplugging one, then the other, then
both of them. No changes. Still boots /w no signal and all fans. I
tried taking out cmos battery and another rtc reset, but no good. i
think i'm gonna by a 3.25 drive and experiment with that bios flashing
suggestion. any recommendations?
