P5P800 suddenly locking up

Even though I did nothing new to my new pc it has started randonly locking
up when left on all night. I did a fresh OS install but it still locks up. I
have not seen it lock up when running memtest all night with no errors but
the lockup problem is pretty random.

I flashed the BIOS with the latest update but my qustion is should I install
the latest chipset drivers?

It seems to work fine without the chipset drivers installed? Could they
possibly help at all with my lockup problem?

The Marvell Gigabit LAN driver 8.35.2.3 is bad. What version of
driver are you using ?

Roll back the driver or install from mb cd.Lot's of people are having
this issue and this will resolve it.

I installed the latest LAN driver and my pc has not locked up once this
weekend.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Miker,

I am having the same problem, also returned to the LAN driver from the
CD, it was haging 3 times a day, now it is haging 1 time a week. So,
still not solved.

What switch are you using ? is it Linksys ?

Greatings,

Frans

Hi Chris,

Having 4 systems with the problem, about 10 other systems with latest
lan drivers (8.???) are never hanging.

On the 4 hanging systems, on which I returned to the LAN drivers from
the cd (7.???), systems are still hanging one a week. On those 4
hanging systems, I am using a LINKSYS switch 8 ports. Might this be
the problem ?

On all other never hanging systems, I am using an other kind of switch
(on routers). Might the linksys switch be the problem ?

Is there any explanation of the problem ?

Greatings

Helped me too

Thanks guys for posting this. My PC (based on ASUS P4 P800E) had just started shutting itself down. The last time I saw it do this was when I plugged a crossover cable into the LAN port several months ago - would reliably shut it down every time. Since then it was fine until yesterday - then it started going off all by itself after a few minutes. Had to pull the plug in order to be able to turn it on.

By a process of elimination I saw it was only doing this when it was connected to the LAN. I assumed the on board LAN or power supply was dodgy and would have bought a NIC or a new power supply if I hadn't read this. Instead I installed the 8.39 driver and all seems well. Who'd have thought a duff driver could have caused such a catestrophic failure!

Thanks again.

Maybe I posted too soon

The network connection has died and refuses to come back - even after a reboot. It's no longer shutting itself down at least.

I've ordered a new NIC

I had random frequent lock-ups after updating the Ethernet drivers on Windows Update.

Marvell Semiconductor - Networking - Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller - version 8.35.2.3

I reverted to the previous version 8.32.2.3 and have never had a problem since.

Look at the numbers printed on top of the Marvell chip on
each motherboard. Perhaps it is a lot or stepping issue
with the chip ? While the Linksys could be the problem, it
could also be the Ethernet chip on the motherboard that is
at fault somehow.

You might also want to look at the link statistics for all
of the boards, and see if some boards experience more CRC
errors than others and so on. With the number of systems you
have available, you have the advantage of being able to
examine the statistics of all the systems, as a means of
detecting what is different about them.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the reply.

I have rolled back to version 7.14.1.3, it seems to work ok.

But finaly, what is the situation ? is there any known reason ?

Greatings,

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the info.

I have received this day a response from Marvell regarding this issue
that I have submitted to them.

They just say "there is an issue with version 8.35.2.3 ...
Issue has been solved in v 8.39.3.3. ..."

So, I am going to give it a try.

Thanks and greatings,

Frans
