Hi,

I have just bought a P5P800 that does not seem to recognise the two SATA
Maxtor 6B300S0 DiamondMax 10 300GB drives that I purchased at the same
time - when I boot the system with these two drives connected it just hangs
the system during the IDE auto detection (and for longer than the timeout
specified). I also have two PATA seagate drives connected and a DVD writer
that work fine. I've tested the SATA drives on a P5AD2-E board and it
detects them without any problem...

Any ideas?? Is my P5P800 fubar ?

TIA,

Lewis

For what it is worth, I got the same problem with the replacement
P5P800 MB that ASUS just sent me. The system will boot and run as long
as I do not connect the Maxtor 300 Gig SATA drives. When I connect the
drives the boot process hangs when the Bios is trying to detect the
Third and Fourth IDE (SATA) drives. Did you get a solution to your
problem? I need a little help!! Thanks in advance.-- Ken

Post #9 here mentions being able to get a fireware update
for the Maxtor 6B300S0. There has been the odd problem with
Maxtor drives, and sometimes (if you can get Maxtor to help),
a firmware update will help. You'll need another computer,
where the drive works well, before trying an update.

An alternative, would be to return the drive to you retailer,
and try another brand of drive.

Paul
