P5AD2-E Deluxe HD and DVD burner conflicts

Orignial setup: Western Digital HD connected to the Primary controller as
master, (I plan on installing an older Plextor CD burner as slave), Plextor
DVD burner on the ITE controller as master. During POST the IDE scan
recognizes the burner but the bios does not. It only sees the HD.

Setup #2. Disconnected the burner from the ITE controller and connected it
as slave to the HD on the primary controller. The BIOS sees them both but
during POST the system hangs with both the power LED and HD activity LED on
steadily. Both are jumperd correctly.

What am I doing wrong. I can't get the DVD burner working so the OS hasn't
been installed yet.

Thanks.

As far as I can tell, you can't boot from anything connected to the
ITE controller (the red connectors). I have a DVD burner connected
there, and although it shows up in the BIOS scan, it is nowhere to be
found in the BIOS setup menus (it seems to work fine in Windows
though).

Is it hanging before you can get into the BIOS setup menus?

Are you trying to boot from the DVD burner? Do you have a bootable
disc in the drive? Is the HD formatted? How is the Boot Device
Priority set in the BIOS?

Some hard drives use different settings for master alone and master
with slave present. If yours is one of those, make sure you're using
the correct master setting.

You might try switching the current master/slave relationship to see
if that makes any difference (i.e. make the DVD burner master).
