Don

I have had this boaerd for several years and have formatted & reinstalled
the OS several time during that time.
This most recent time after the new install (XP Pro) SP1, intel chipset
utility, ect.

I started to have all kinds of issues with Blue Screens Error codes 50 & 7E
some no codes at all just crash.
I had the most recent drivers for my ATI AIW 9700 and the SB Audigy I run 4
LVD SCSI 160 drives with a 29160 controller.

After many hours I have, it appears, found what might be one of the issues.
USB Hub on mainboard
It appears that if I disconnect everthing (USB) from the four ports on the
MB I have no issues, so far.
I also had a self powerd 7 port hub attached BELKIN to one of the USB 2.0
slots. I would show up as a Gerneric Hub in Device Mang.
It appearts that the MB does not have the proper drivers for USB 2,0. I
thought that SP1 provided surport for this and also the Intel Chip Utility.
Any one with any suggestions?

Thanks
Don

P4 3.06

You have a total of eight USB ports, four USB 1.1 on the Intel
ICH2 Southbridge and four USB 2.0/1.1 on the NEC chip.

Try checking http://usbman.com/USB 2 News.htm , as it has some
advice on USB matters. In your case, read anything with the word ICH2
or NEC in the article.

Generally, people here have the best luck, when they delete the USB
devices from the Device Manager, and let the Windows hardware
wizard discover the "new" hardware. That frequently cleans up the
USB install. AFAIK, SP1 is all that you need. Older OSes sometimes
require the Orangeware drivers, in their many disguises.

The cleanup procedure is documented here:
http://www.usbman.com/Guides/Cleanup Device Manager Safe Mode.htm

If you happened to have changed the keyboard, be aware that certain
keyboards can cause some really strange behavior with certain Asus
motherboards, including the P4T533C.

As someone else pointed out, there are two USB controllers, only one of
them is the Intel controller in the chipset, the motherboard also has a
2nd NEC controller.

Thank you for you info ,
I will try both of you suggestions.
In device manager I hAve the following under USB Bus Controllers:
Intel Host Cont. 2442
" " 2444
Nec PCI to USB Enhanched Host Cont (B1)
Nec PCI to USB Open Host Cont
Nec PCI to USB Poen Host Cont
USB Printing Support
5 Root hubs

does this appear to be correct.

Thanks Don

I think so. Generally, there is only one Enhanced entry per
chip, so the NEC chip seems to have its USB2 driver installed.

Did you try clearing all the USB entries out and get Windows
to rediscover the USB ports ? Or is this the state of your
USB entries before clearing them out ?

I tried searching Google using ==> "error code" 0x00000050
and found this. Apparently, if one of the USB devices you
are using, required a driver to run, that driver can be
the root cause of your crashes:

Paul, This is the state prior to cleaning
I am having stop error erratically, all of a sudden it will just blue screen
and with different error codes,
C0000218, ......7b,....50, there seems to be no specific reason, I have
reloaded the operating system (XP Pro) several and ultimately I get error
codes. Very frustrating?
I started to think it was the Audigy I replaced that and still the same
device errors.
I purchased a new P4 800E Dx with 2 512 MB od HperX Kinston memory/ fitted
out the new MB and with only my 29160 (Scsi controller) and ATI AIW 9600 I
never got past post with a three beep error code
(the first a little longer than the last two) called Kingston and actually
spoke to a live person on about the 4 ring, and he stated that it could be
the memory mod. but unlikely that two , as I tried one at a time in the
slots.
So sad but true I am not having much success with either board and I have
had the 533 since it came out and has been rock solid until now.
Well I have a know good stick of 3200 and I am going to try to test the 800
outside the case this evening.

Thanks
Don

Are you using the same power supply for both boards? I had a power supply
that started failing gradually (low voltage on 3.3 and 5 volt rails) produce
blue screens and the occasional random reboot.
