I am having a strange problem and am looking for a solution. I have a
P4T-E with a 2.4GHz CPU (the 400MHz version) running 512 of PC800 RAMBUS
memory. I recently changes the CPU from a 1.9 to the current 2.4. Now
whenever I boot it the system seems to hang for several seconds at the
Award Plug and Play line of the BIOS boot up process. It did not do
this with the 1.9 installed. After the sevearl second pause it seems to
boot just fine. It's just odd and I can't seem to pin down the problem.
The really weird thing is that it boots just fine out of the case on the
floor. Anyone else seen this? Two other clues: sometimes I have no
keyboard access and all of the time a PS2 mouse will not work, I have to
use a USB mouse. I am open to ideas from someone with some insight into
what might be causing the problem. Shorting out again the case? If so
why the pause and then the boot. I would have expected it to hang and
stay hung if it was shorting on the case somewhere. The really weird
part is that everything is great when the 1.9 is in.
