I'm wanting to put a 2.2ghz, 400mhz FSB Celeron cpu in this board. I
downloaded the mobo manual, but it makes no reference to a Celeron cpu.The
manual only lists the P4 up 2.53ghz 400/533mhz FSB. I'm all set with the
other system components.
All responses appreciated.

For P4S8X, and a 2.2Ghz/FSB400/128KB it says:

Celeron 2.2 GHz(400 MHz FSB) Board_revision=ALL BIOS at least 1002

As long as you have at least BIOS revision 1002, it should work.
If you've never had the motherboard running before, check the label
on the flash chip - it is a four sided chip, loaded into a socket,
and there will be a paper label stuck to the top of it, with the
release number of the BIOS printed on it. The picture in the manual
shows the BIOS chip being to the left of the AGP slot and the PCI
slot 1, near to the left edge of the motherboard.

If a previous owner has flashed it, it might already have a later
revision in the flash chip.

Note that this board had some problems with the Vcore circuit.
That is why the P4 3.06GHz/FSB533/512KB processor isn't in the
supported processor list - it makes the board unstable. Your
Celeron, on the other hand, should work just fine. Consult the
forums at Abxzone.com if you want more info on the P4S8X. Use

Thanks for the pointers. The Celeron is being taken from a Dell Dimension
2350, replaced with a P4 2.4. I don't have the Asus board yet, but there a
few listed on eBay listed as new for very reasonable prices, $50.00 or so. I
was hoping this Celeron/Asus combination would make a reasonably speedy XP
box with 768mb of ddr 2100 memory. It looks as though it will.
