I have had a 2 week discussion with the stupid Tech Support with creative
labs over my SBAudigy 2 OEM card. The solution they came up woth is that the
card is not compabtable with my p4s800 mobo. Does anyone have similar
problems with the card not working on this motherboard. Thanks
Have you:
1) Used the latest Creative drivers ?
2) Disabled Hyperthreading to see if the problem was that the
Creative drivers aren't multiprocessor (HT) safe ?
3) Tried the Audigy in a slot with its own IRQ (slot 4) ?
4) Set "Onboard AC97 Audio Controller" [Disabled] in BIOS ?
5) Perhaps go into the Device Manager and if it already isn't disabled,
find any sound related hardware device (AC97) and disable it ?
6) Use DXDIAG and try the DirectSound test ? Is the sound clear there
and not elsewhere ? Maybe your sound is only bad when certain
software APIs are used ?
7) What version of BIOS for the P4S800 are you using ? Have you
tried the beta BIOS 1005s004.zip on the download page ? The
history notes for the BIOS make no mention of sound problems,
so flashing the BIOS would be a long shot.
To make progress, you'll have to tell us how your testing is going,
with descriptions of symptoms and what things make the problem
better or worse. Otherwise, all we can suggest is return the Audigy
and get a non-Creative card like a Turtle Beach. For the price of the
Audigy, you could buy a few different cheap sound cards and test them.
By the way, do you have any other kinds of PCI cards you could plug
into this system and test ? If you try a LAN card or an IDE card or
a RAID card, and they don't work, maybe the motherboard is at fault,
and needs to be replaced under warranty. You aren't going to know
what to replace or RMA in your system until you try more tests.
As you do the tests, don't forget to record the hardware configuration
you've used on a piece of paper, so later you can post all the details.
(I like to use the napkins from fast food joints to write mine
down on - that way the paper is free
))
