P4S533-X motherboard
2.2Ghz Celeron

The sound make the whole system jerky. It that because it is onboard?
Or is there a setting I can adjust to fix this?

Thanks

The onboard sound, combined with a Celeron CPU, is causing the problem.
Install a separate soundcard to fix it.

This is purely a guess, but go into the BIOS and change
the state of "PCI 2.1 Support". It will be either enabled
or disabled, and changing the setting may help. I think
this setting may influence what on other motherboards is
called "Delay Transaction" or "Delayed Transaction". This
is a protocol feature on PCI that frees the bus when accessing
slow devices. The slow bus cycle is tried at regular intervals
until eventually the slow device responds.

Post back if it works or not, so others can benefit.

Good luck,
Paul

Paul,

I am posting to let you and others know that it did, in fact, make a
huge difference. The jerkyness is eliminated.

I'd be interested in knowing exactly what PCI2.1 is all about. What
else it controls, etc.

Thanks for your help!!

I do intend to do this when my finances (read: wife) allow it. :)

Thanks for the response.

Ahh, the affliction of the true geek

'I'm waiting for incompatibilities between my wants (HW) and the
supporting applications (wife) to be resolved before upgrading'
