OK, here's the hardware:

ASUS P4S533 board with Award Bios version 1010, 1024 gig PC2100 RAM,
Pentium 4 two gig processor, Western Digital 40 gig hard drive, Windows
98SE operating system. Entire system functioned normally without a
problem when last shut down yesterday. This morning, fired it up and it
could not find the hard drive, followed by a message "BIOS disabled",
eventually followed by Boot disk failure, insert bootable floppy
(obvious, since it could not find the hard drive).

Can anybody out there clue me in on what has happened, and what can be
done to fix it? Or, has my motherboard soiled the sheets?

Figured it out. Jumpered the clear CMOS setting, and rebooted and
re-entered BIOS and everything is fine.

I run the same board....no problems at all...awesome....The question
I'd like to know is why on earth would you run win98 with a system
like yours?

Any chance the connection to you hard drive might have come lose a little?
I had a similar thing happen when I changed out a card inside. Somehow the
connector to the hard drive must have been knocked or something, because
when I tried booting up, the screen told me that my primary hard drive could
not be found. I went back, checked all connections to the hard drive, and
it booted up perfectly next time.
