Whats your opinion on the SiS related boards like P4S533 / 800-MX? I had
some bad experiences and I am wondering, am I the only one who had problems
or are there more? For expample, on the P4S800-MX I can't get the
floppydrive to work (!?). Never had that strange thing with intel related
boards.

The floppy is generally connected to the Super I/O chip and these
are made by ITEusa or Winbond. So, it is not an Intel versus SIS
issue. It can depend on the design of the BIOS and how much effort
has been put into it. There have been some reports in this group, of
floppies not working, and possible causes are cable problems (even
new out of the box) or changing brands of floppy drive. The "brand
change" implies that some level of compatibility has been lost
somewhere along the way.

At the OS level, you should read this. It concerns "3mode" floppy
drives, that support 720,1.2,1.44 floppies. In WinXP, you may have
to search around a bit, to find a driver that handles all three:

:)))) hehe, well that's my opinion also... And the floppy thing: What is
easier and more basic than a floppydrive?? Okay, they trying to get users to
stop using a floppydisk (see notebooks) but why then still putting the
floppydiskcontroller on the boards? Leave them and the problem is solved.

And yes, I tried differend boards / floppydiskdrive's (Samsung, Mitsumi) /
bios's and still it isn't working. Normally I use intel related boards (like
P4PE and the P4P800-serie) and never had problems with the fdd. Even the
P4S533-MX doesn't give any problem..

I sended back the P4S800-MX boards back to my vendor, let's see what they
can do about it........
