I just installed a 250GB WD drive. I had it set up in one 150GB and two
50GB partitions. Only the 150GB showed up in windows. Then I changed it to
five 50GB partitions, and only three 50's showed up in windows.
I read about a possible 137GB limitation but having XP Pro SP-1 should
have gone around that. It shows in BIOS as 250GB and in Device Manager
without conflicts. However; in Device Manager under its properties it shows
three partitions and the remaining, what should have been two, as
unallocated.
Anyone have any more trouble with this than me?

Nevermind I found the answer myself after awhile. For anyone else
having these issues, for me it was an update of the Intel Application
Accelerator. Now it all works fine:-)

In Win2K SP3+ you had to set this key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Parameters]
"EnableBigLba"=dword:00000001

WinXP SP1 requires the same key, but I am unsure as to whether it is there
by default or not.

I set that key and installed one the other day without issues.

I've mailed you the .reg to click on as well. Merge it and reboot. If
you've partitioned it without 48bit addressing support, you'll likely have
to start again.
