P4PE and P4C 3 GHZ Processor

I upgrade to 3ghz p4c from p4 533 2.6 proc. Memory is pc3200 crucial
and will run ok at 413 mhz when 2.6 is oc to 3.1 ghz. The p4c 3 gig
part will not run at full speed. Winxp will not boot. If I lower fsb
to 190 mhz it works ok. I don't know if this is a fault of mb (1007
bios) or if I have a punk p4c. I am considering upgrading mb to p4c
anyway but if anyone has heard of a problem like this with P4PE mb

Did you get a Prescott (3.0E), by any chance? This beast would probably
be too power hungry for the P4PE.

I have this board and a 2.8 P4B with 2 x PC3500 Mushkin 512 sticks of
RAM. I have easily overclocked this to 3.1Gig but I cannot get the
memory to reliably run at over 400. It will run for awhile and then
randomly reboot. If I change the memory divider to get the memory
under DDR400, things seem OK. DDR387 speeds seem fine.

How many sticks of RAM do you have? I don't believe the P4PE is rated
to run 2 sticks at DDR400 speeds. I believe that ASUS says if you run
at DDR400, you can only use 1 stick. I have not tried running only
one stick or doing too much fooling with memory timings, DDR387 is
fine and after all, the board was only supposed to be rated for
DDR333. I am also running the 1007 BIOS.

difference. The only way I can get it to work is to drop fsb to 190.
The cpu is ok. I put it in this one (p4p800 asus mb) at work and oc
to +5% and is stable.

Well, since the P4PE was never rated to run an 800MHz FSB chip and the
memory at the speed you want to run, I don't think you can complain
really. This is one of the reasons I never bought a P4C for mine, I
was not sure it was worth it over the 2.8 P4B I already have. Most
likely the performance you are missing is very small anyway. Still,
if you are at all like me, you want the most speed you can get. <S>

I believe you are correct. I plan on getting a P4C800 mb for my b-day
soon so all will be resolved.
