After a week trying to troubleshoot this on my own looking at all the
available help I could find I resort to you.
I am trying to put together from scratch an ASUS P4PE system with:
- 1006 BIOS update
- 2.4B P4
- ATI All in Wonder 9000 Pro (OEM version)
- 2 x 512MB PC3200 (some G-Tek chips DDR)
- WD 200GB HD
1. I put it all together and turned it on, the initial ASUS Graphic
screen, Setup screen and everything else was all fuzzy and dotted.
Basically unreadable almost as if there was a bad connection between
the card, DVI-VGA adapter and monitor - it did not work;
2. I reseated and cheked all connections and tried again - no
difference;
3. To get other things going and check for a more serious mobo
problem, I took the ATI AGP out and pluged in PCI video card from my
old system - worked fine;
4. I eventually installed Windows XP SP1 (slipstreamed) and got it all
working with the PCI, even loading the Intel Graphic Chipset drivers
for the 845 - still with the PCI;
5. I then plugged in the AGP (ATI) card back (left the PCI connected),
plugged the monitor on the AGP and turned in on - same problem as
before;
6. I did a hard reset on the mobo and tried to turn it on again -
worse problem, now I don't even get the fuzzy dotted graphics and
text, it doesn't show anything, the monitor doesn't even receive the
signal (it keeps shut off);
7. I plug the monitor on the PCI card- it works fine.
Can anyone please help me?
I am already thinking about returning (or replacing) the card and even
the mobo, but I would like to try until the end...
Thanks.
