P4P8X Soundmax Tone Controls

I am trying to adjust the tone controls (bass, treble) in the windows
control panel but both sliders are greyed out. They are both turned
down to minimum and MP3's and the like sound like crap. The jackass
software that comes with this doesnt let you change it either. I am
using newest drivers but still cant seem to resolve this issue.
Anyone know of a way around this other then buying a SBLive or the
like..TIA.

There's BassBoost which boosts the bass. If you don't have treble/bass
controls on your speakers then you're a bit of a knob.
 
Most sound cards don't support those sliders, since the sound driver is a
rather silly place for doing that processing. Use the equalizer in Winamp,
Windows Media Player, etc. to set the bass/treble.
