Hi,

I have installed windows 2003 on an and the newest intel drivers for the
ASUS P4P800SE and an intel Pentium 4 2.8 GYG that supports hyperthreading.
But onfortunately, Windows does not see the HT feature. Even going to 'my
computer' devices I only can choose for 'standard PC'.
what's up?

Thanks

Under device manager you should see two processors when you click on the
little +

Nope,

besides, it was a harddisk replace on a new hardware box. For sake of
avoiding to reinstall my domain controller, I just upgraded the chipset
drivers after having placed to old harddisk into the new box (with specs in
subject).
So I'm afraid win2003 does not support hardware changes like that.
On 'standard PC' there should be a possibility to chose for a MPS kernel,
but it does even not allow me to select such option.

Is hyperthreading enabled in the bios? Did you check your processor with
cpuz?

Not all P4 2.8GHz CPU's support HyperTheading. You might have a mismarked
one. OR, are you sure you Enabled HyperThreading in the BIOS? It's OFF, by
default I believe.

An in place update from the original windows 2003 CD fixed the hardware
devices and hyperthreading works as well now...

I had the same problem on a recently built P4P800 Deluxe. Upgraded to
the newest BIOS (1015), and all is well.

Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Of course, I've checked the obvious :)

No it's ON (AMI bios)... and ACPI 2.0 extensions are off by default. They
are also importand for a fully ACPI compatible system to recognize device,
although, I don't know whether or not, the CPU can be determined as HT
without ACP 2.0.

But before you asked your question you didn't do the obvious thing which is
to do a repair install, so obvious that I didn't mention it ;)
