P4P800SE fried memory controller / northbridge?

I've had my P4P800SE running fine for 3 months and now when I switch it
on the fans just whirl and there's no video or POST beeps. So I begin
with the obvious checking that my gfx card is firmly in the slot and it
is...then I start ripping everything off the board except for the P4
prescot which is when I burn myself on the memory controller heatsink -
since the PC's only been on a few seconds this doesn't seem normal to
me... BTW, I left the BIOS at defaults and haven't overclocked
anything.

Anyone else experienced similar problems? I've requested an RMA from
ASUS a couple of days ago but haven't heard anything yet...

I've brought one ASUS board after another and have always been very
pleased with them but after this experience I might change my mind!
Cheers. Thank goodness I've got a Mac too ;-)

You mean the tall heatsink on the north bridge ?
It will be warm, but not hot after being off and no load. Sounds like
there is a problem ...ouchy!
