I have the following problem with these boards (P4P800S-X):

Installed Windows XP Home SP2, Pentium 4 2.8GHz 1Mb 800MHz fsb (Prescott),
512Mb Kingston KVR400, Maxtor 120Gb IDE 8Mb.

Start the machine, no problem. But after shutdown Windows, the computer
won't boot again. Nothing happens when the power button is pressed. I have
to pull the powercord and put it back again. Then the system boots normal
again. I already installed the latest bios (which would solve the power
failure) but it still is not working.

Already changed everything, motherboard, other p/supp, hdd, everything.

Any suggestion?

Hi Werner,

I have the same problem with more!
I have bought two P4P800S-X and I made two PC.
1) both have the same problem and it seems to be due to current drain.
It seems that this motherboard is very sensible to current drain and I
found that my PS/2 keyboard was the problem. I enabled the power up by
keyboard "power" button and this caused the "no boot" problem. After
disabling the BIOS keyboard power on function the PC in the 90% of the
cases powers on correctly.
In the remaining 10% it would power on again only after disconnecting
power cord and keyboard.

2) In one of the two PC I tried to install an external USB 2.0 HD and
here is what happened: the PC powered off instantly and now it is not
possible to power up again: the green led on the MoBo now lights very
faintly and after pressing power button nothing happens, no fan
moving, no CD ROM/Floppy leds flashing...
I tried to change the power supply, but with no luck; I think the MoBo
is fried!!!
I have contacted Asus for info about this problem, but I think I will
have to contact my dealer for a change!

I will keep the newsgroup informed.
Bye, Lorenzo

Same problem here - bios update 1005A doesn't solve it

Best wishes

I tried to install bios 1007 but now the PC remains powered on for 2
seconds and then restarts (power led off then on again) for many
times.
I went back instantly to 1005A.
