Everything seems to work fine EXCEPT for the extremely looooong boot time when
it hits the Raid controller. I've been searching the net for any ideas and have
made adjustments accordingly, but it still takes a real long time to get past
the raid part of boot up.

MB bios 1009
VIA Raid bios 1.12 (can't find a utility to allow an update of the raid chip)
2 WD120's running as single drives, both set to cable select, one on each
controller.

There is your problem.

Set one to Master, the other to Slave and run them off the one controller. It
will boot a heap faster.
