Don Trep

Scratching my head over this one. Built a new rig using the ASUS P4P800
mb with a P4 3.0 800 bus, 2x crucial 256 pc3200 ram, ATI Radeon 9600, 2
maxtor 80gig SATA hd's (NOT run in raid config). Post started to display
a message, something like checking nvdram. This would take almost 2
minutes and then the post would continue. Some program added some type
of boot loader that would come up during post.
Now the rig is dead. Fans and lights come on, hd activity for about
30sec, no monitor,power to keyboard.

Tried resetting bios by clearing rtc. Nothing.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction. Could it be video card?
and would this keep rig from posting? Could it be the MB? or the memory?

Nothing fancy regarding software. Windows 2000 pro,Norton antivirus, etc.

Howe can I restore BIOS?

thanks Don

I have the exact same setup as you describe Don, and have encountered the
same problem. This is apparently a recognised isssue with the P4P800 on
boards before the v1010 bios revision. (This revision fixes this known
bootup problem)
Resetting the CMOS and removing the battery *may* solve this for you. I
had to return the board to my retailer though, who acknowledged the problem
(he had several boards returned) and swapped for a P4P800 with the latest
v1010 bios.
Do a google search for P4P800 problems as well as visiting various ASUS
forums at hardware sites, and you'll see that you're not alone with this...
Hope that helps!

They might be having quality control problems with that board. I've build
three systems with the P4P800 Deluxe, and had to return one of the MBs with
AGP slot problems. Otherwise, all 3 systems are working great now.
If it's not too late, try trading it in on a new one.

Try taking out one if the RAM Sticks. If it boots up, take the other one
out and put the other one in. If that boots up try putting both of RAM
sticks back in. Try reseating the RAM and Video Card. DO you have another
Video Card? If so, try putting that in and see if it boots. Make sure that
everything is properly seated and connected, the wires too!

Do every thing one step at a time.

I would first only use one stick of RAM, only connecting 1 HD, and only
using your Video card. Disconnect everything else. It that still fails,
take out that RAM and put the other one in. If that fails, try putting in
another Vidoe Card, if that fails. disconnect the Hard drive and try
booting with just the RAM and Video. Probally somewhere in these components
lies the problem.
