Hi all,
I am close to buy a new MB cause my P4T-E gave back his soul to the devil.

Does the P4P800 SE a good choice ?

Does my Intel Pentium 4 - 1.7 GHZ /256/400/1.75v CPU (socket 478) suitable
for this MB ?

Any info welcome and thanks
John.

Yes, the P4P800 SE and the Deluxe version are good choices for your
P-4 1.7GHz S478 CPU. The Deluxe version has a better sound
chip, an extra RAID controller with more SATA connections, 1394
Firewire, etc.

We are a dealer and have sold a lot of those boards. They are excellent
quality and come with a 3yr warranty.

I own the SE version, I now wish I'd gone for the regular P4P board
with firewire.

I have an se board with the pci firewire card and it works fine.
I can download my dv direct to the hard drive.

I just bought a P4P800-SE...my 15th Asus MB over the years...I did
also have a P4PE...deluxe which if god, but it has the widely reported
problem that...normally when room temp is < 60F...it won't boot, or
even posted, after lot's of monkey business...it will boot but POST
reports bad CPU setting!!!!

Asus did replace the brd...but same deal...as a HW designer...it's
pretty clear the P4PE brd has a HW design problem....

Anyway, when it does boot up ok (like now...summer it's 100% fine)
then I love the board. But, the on board Firewire isn't (my opinion)
quite as good as, say an adaptec add-in board....some SW (True Image)
the on-brd 1394 was sometimes not 100%...plus I wanted the chance to
later in stall a 1394B variant board (800 vs 400 xfer rate!

For this reason, when I bought the P4P800 I took the SE version (not
1394 on board)....I'm very happy with it so far...not
bleeding-edge...but rock solid with 3.2 Prescott.

....for what it's worth...........
