Does anyone have any experience with this combination? Since PC3200 is only a couple bucks more than PC2700, I was going to
go with it. I will be using a P4 2.8C on it, and I'm referring to the standard P4P800 (not deluxe)

Hi,

Never buy "noname" memory ! Kingston and Infineon looks to give the best ratio price/quality.

I have a P4P800 std with a P4 2.4c and two 512 Mb PC 3200 RAM. BIOS is standard adjust, hyperthreading activated.

I'm not a specialist and my problem was that dealers here in Paris were not more clever than I am today :-(.

It works ! But I have a BSOD 1 out of 3 shutdowns. I do not believe this is due to the hardware,
we have tried some exchanges with a friend:

Motherbd P4PEx instead: P4P800 is better
another P4 2.4c, nothing changed
RAM : 2 x 512
we tried noname PC 2700: works with two but not with one ! This memory works on older boards.
we tried Kingston PC 2700: OK with both motherboards, recommended by Asus.
we tried Kingmax Gold PC 3200 cas 2.5: OK with P4P800 NOT with P4PE
AIDA32's memory check gives a good level of performances.

I still use them at this time. but I still have the bsod stop 00x00D1 (00x00,00x08,00x00,00x00) without driver name !
Apart this phenomenon, the PC works fast but it does't accept any more overclocking.

This MB is equipped with the asus FX 5200 videosuite, and two asus CD drives (40x , 52x cdrw), powerbox is 350w morex.

If this could help ....

Regards from France

Mike

Definitely use PC3200 with this board...It's made for it (400mhz x 2 (DDR) =
800mhz (the FSB of the board)) . If you're going to overclock...get a good
name brand PC3500, PC3700...if not, the cheapest PC3200 will work fine. I
bought mine here http://www.hardcorecooling.us/ and have had no problems.
Good prices, selection and service.

Be aware that there is a "Rev.2.0" available of the P4P800!

With 2x256MB RAM PC3200 of a good label (Crucial/Micron, Infineon,
TwinMOS with Winbond-Chips ...) you are on the safe side.
(For Photoshop 2x512MB is advisable.)

Roy <P4 2.4C on both P4P800 Rev.2.0 and P4P800_Deluxe>

Hi Husker,

Got one here which runs just fine with a matched pair of 512 corsair sticks
(TWINX1024-3200LL).
If you're not planning any overclocking you do not need these but anyway
don't buy cheap RAM :
as Roy said, Crucial is a very good brand if you're looking for a high
price/quality ratio.

HTH.
Julien.

By the way Roy : could you please tell us what are the changed between rev
1.x and rev 2.0 P4P800 ?

Unfortunately, I don't know.
My first P4P800_D died noise- and smokeless together with the P4, and
I bought a P4P800_non-D to replace it while it was sent to the dealer
- and got a "Rev.2.0"... well, there _must_ be some progress;-)

Roy

Well thanks anyway ...
I just hope that this progress is not ... Prescott Support !

| Well, If I look at the table for P4P800 on
|
| http://www.asus.com.tw/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx
|
| the Prescott Support (P4*E) is provided with BIOS 1014!
|
| Roy
Same as for the P4C800-E

the new revision (1015) shows 'Processor Support' as the main reason for
1014->1015 but on the cpusupport url (above) all the CPU's have been
supported either out of the box, at 1010 or 1014, 1015 hasnt 'added'
anything.

Probably a tweak for Prescotts, doesnt add any more support, just better
support for an existing cpu?
