Hey folks,

I'll soon be assembling a system based on the P4P800 and was wondering
if the onboard NIC supports WOL, specifically wake-on-PING so that I don't
have to send WOL packets just to fire up the system remotely.

Thanks,

Dave

According to the manual I have here (I use
the P4P800 non-deluxe), it supports WOL
(Wake on LAN). WOR (Wake on Ring). .

Theres also Power on by spacebar/mouse/external
modem, PCI devices. According to the manual
power on by external modem says when the modem
receives a call while the computer is in soft-off mode.

The PC cant receive or transmit until the PC
and applications are running. Thus, connection cant
be made on the first try. Turning an external modem
off and then on while the PC is OFF casuses an
init string that turns the system power on.

Paul,

Thanks for the note, but I don't think this really addresses what I was
needing to know. I have an Abit motherboard with a Linksys LNE100TX ver. 5
LAN card that can wake my system on pings. This is great behind a router
because only a few specific ports of my configuration can wake my system
from the outside. This is the same sort of thing I would like the onboard
3Com chip to do with the P4P800. Many other chips (like the VIA Rhine)
require one to send specific WOL packets, which doesn't work well through a
router from the WAN side.

No prob Dave. Yup I dont think its WOP
as what you're after. I have a few homemade
systems here. I dont think any of them support
WOP.

Well, I took the plunge and bought the board. The 3COM LAN chipset does
indeed support WOP, if that's what it's called.
