hi guys

Had : older IDE drive and a new SATA HD in my system.

Worked great.
Took out IDE drive (which was master) tried to boot up nothing.
Do i have to set jumpers or something on SATA drive for it to work alone?
I wanted it to work alone first then add a identical SATA drive and ghost
the exact image on it.

Guys help. how do i do this?

hi Tim thanks for your response
yes its window xp pro
I tried some of the things suggested on the links you provided.
Nothing worked.
if i put the IDE drive back in I can boot up any drive and things are back
to normal.
Is there a way i can fix this while in the os that wont boot up without the
help of the older drive?
Got to be a way to do this. I really regret installing on the new drive
while having the old drive in.
what a pain.
more suggestions please!!!

Copy over the ntldr, ntdetect.com, boot.ini and other files they mention in
the article.
You may need to fix the boot record on the disc.

Basically what has happened is you may have installed windows onto the sata
disc when the ide was the first physical and already formated. Because the
ide disc was the first disc it was made boot able and the boot.ini say go to
the sata disc and load from there. So basically you need to copy these files
to the sata disc (as per instructions for making boot floppy), make sure
there is a boot sector on the sata disc.

i cant figure out where to put them
i have the files on a fomatted floppy (not bootable)
where do i put the files from here.

i guess whats not clear to me is where is boot.ini on the drives? found two:
one on c and one on e(sata drive)
both say backup
found a ntldr file on the sata but not on the ide
really dont know what im doing

probably getting tired of me at this point but please hang in there and help
me out 8)
