Have you installed the Intel chipset drivers ? They come after your
Windows install, and before your video card install. The SMBus is
the serial System Management bus, and it does things like read the
SPD on the DIMMs and allows getting data from the hardware monitor
chip. I think there might be a driver in the chipset drivers.
If you download from Intel (downloadfinder.intel.com), typical these
are called INFINST.exe . Dunno what file you'll find them in, on
the motherboard CD.

On the Asus download page, there doesn't seem to be chipset drivers
provided for your board. If you go to another board, like the
vanilla P4P800 board, you'll find "inf5021003.zip" listed as
a chipset driver installer.

http://www.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/inf5021003.zip

The ZIP contains the installer and a release notes file.

There is an option with the installer, to have it dump all
the INF files into a directory, so you can install things
manually if you want. In there, I see a file "ich5core.inf"
and it mentions the SMbus device. So, with a little luck, running
infinst will solve your problems, and, as an added bonus, you'll
find your AGP slot now runs in AGP mode, instead of PCI mode. This
will make some 3D games a bit happier, and give faster benchmarks
for 3DMark etc. Of course, it will take an infinite amount of
futzing to get all software layers working properly, but the
AGP driver is a start.

HTH,
Paul
