My son built his first PC as above in May and after intermittant and
worsening problems with booting after shut down, he had left it on
continuously for months until last night's power failure. Now it won't boot
at all.

I've been lurking and learning here and on web forums so I'm aware of the
incompatability issue. I know about posts regarding revision 02 and serial
numbers 41 and lower and Asus's possible acceptance of responsibility. I'm
looking for any more knowledge/news and opinions for him on whether to go
the RMA route or change the Antec box and PS (upgrade). Thanks!

Interesting... This is sort of something similar to a problem I
"occasionally" have. My problem is that very occasionally the system
will hang during the boot process. Near as I can tell it happens
"just" before my Zone Alarm starts... which seems to be the last
thing..

This is such an intermittent thing ( I shut down every night)... weeks
can go by and no problems then .. and then.. "sometimes" it will take
several attempts to boot to completion, the maximum so far has been 3
times. My only option is to power down.. and try again..

I have "NO" idea what the problem is but am surprised that you
associate the case with the problem....But then it is the same case I
have..

For what it is worth here is my system....

MB Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Intel 875 800 FSB
CPU Intel Pentium 4 3.0C Ghz 512K 800 FSB
CPU Cooler Zalman CNPS7000A AICS
Mem DDR400 PC3200 512MB (x2)
HD Seagate Cuda 7200 80 GB SATA 8Mb (x2)
Video ATI All In Wonder 9600 128MB DDR
LG 8x SuperMulti DVD Recorder
LG 52x CDROM 128k 80ms E-IDE/ATAPI
Canon LIDE80 scanner
Case Antec Sonota mid tower Black 380W

System BIOS Date 02/23/04
Video BIOS Date 03/12/03
OS Windows XP Pro SP1

I am "soon" going to take my system down, flash my BIOS, clean
everything, re route some cables and air flow, remove, clean and
reinstall my Zalman cooler ......... and do a clean/fresh install with
Windows 2000 SP4.
But... if it is the case... this will not fix my problem either

Maybe someone else has some insight
Ralph
