P4P800 DLX motherboard with P4 2.6Ghz. Windows XP Pro SP 1.

I have only one hard drive hooked to the RAID. The drive acts as a
regular drive, not as a RAID. At boot up, the screen shows

VIA Tech...RAID BIOS 1.12
Press <TAB> key into user window.
Scan Devices, Please wait.

The computer stops here for about two minutes, but it continues. How
to stop that?

The only way is to have 2 hard drives hooked up to that RAID controller. If you
haven't got another drive, don't use that controller.

I don't agree. Started with one disk on pri-raid and have added 2 disks to
the sec-raid. Boot time and scan is the same...pretty fast.(a few seconds
for scan)

Via controller works fine for me as well with only 1 drive.

1- make certain that the drive is set as master.
2- make certain that you have installed the via drivers (Came on CD)
3- do not press TAB (obvious but should be stated)
4- if you enabled raid turn it off, it could be looking for the none
existing 2nd drive)

I've got a Samsung 120GB ATA133 running as Pri-Raid, no other drives
and it boots fast and runs faster than when I had it on the intel
controller which only supports ATA100 so don't listen to all you hear.
