Hi,
New P4P800 deluxe. I installed the MB in my case, plugged in my HD(Master
IDE 1) Only video card and Cdrom. I am stuck in a loop. Boots to Asus logo
to my OS choices (XP Pro or Recovery Console) I choose XP, It then goes to
start up options, I pick normal, right back to logo, OS choices. It has
detected my HD. I treid safe mode, vga mode, everyone, nothing, same loop.
What is going on here? Don't tell me I have to reinstall XP, just because i
got this MB? I have changes MBS before, Please help?
Thanks
Frank

You *may* be able to avoid reinstalling XP, but you're unlikely to get
much help here unless you tell us the model of your old motherboard. If
it is possible, it won't be a trivial procedure and may leave residual
stability issues.

The repair install worked. Thanks. The old MB was an asus P4B. I probably
should do a clean install, now that I know. The repair let's me make sure I
have all the files I need backed up(I know I have most all of them.
Thanks for the quick resonses to all,
FL

Frank,

Don't forget to reapply service packs (IE Windows XP sp1a) and use windows
update to reinstall any security patches you may have had.

If you installed or repaired XP from an XP SP1a slipstreamed CD then you
don't need to put SP1a back in (obvisouly).

If in doubt run winver.exe

will remain the same.

WHENEVER you install a new motherboard in a system with XP on the harddrive,
you HAVE to reformat the harddrive and do a fresh install of XP OR you will
suffer ongoing nasty Registry errors. As you've noticed.

Yup, I know that know
Thanks,
Frank

Actually, XP allows you to delete the windows install without
formatting the HD. Works great, a real nice thing.
